HOW WE ADVISE

Four Steps to Advising Success

Students follow a four-step advising process when they apply to one of HGS's participating universities.

Meet Advisor and Explore Options

Students meet with their advisor to receive personalized guidance and develop preferences such as university location, programs of study, career goals, and budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Hudson Global Scholars (HGS) Admission Guarantee?

Hudson Global Scholars who successfully earn their American High School Diploma are guaranteed admission to one of the HGS participating universities with preferred admission, or HGS will refund their program fee. Students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.7 to qualify. Students are also required to complete an English placement exam during the university admissions process. Most are free or low-cost and online. Nationality requirements vary by receiving country. Learn more on our Preferred Admissions page.

Is university advising free?

Hudson Global Scholars provides free university advising to all students in one of our American diploma programs. This advising is designed to help them achieve the dream of studying abroad at one of our top-quality universities. This includes up to four individualized sessions with an advisor (and parents are encouraged to attend!), as well as the opportunity to join scheduled group advising sessions.

When should students schedule their first advising session?

It is never too early to schedule a session with a university advisor, even for students who are just getting started with their academic program. An early session can help students set goals that will help them as they progress in the program and understand how to take full advantage of the opportunities afforded to them. We recommend scheduling the first advising session at least one year prior to graduation to ensure enough time for planning and application preparations.

What scholarships are available to HGS students?

Hudson Global Scholars is pleased to offer scholarships to its American Diploma graduates. Scholarship levels are determined by the student’s academic records, English proficiency level, and the university and programs selected.

For participating U.S. universities:

  • Qualifying students with a GPA of 2.5-3.69 are guaranteed a minimum $1,500 scholarship with potential for up to $20,000.
  • Qualifying students with a GPA of 3.7 or higher are guaranteed a minimum $10,000 scholarship with potential for up to $30,000.

The HGS university advisor will discuss this with individual students in further detail during advising sessions. Partial scholarships may be available for participating universities outside the United States.

Can students apply to universities outside of HGS's portfolio of participating universities? If so, what support will HGS's university advisors provide?

Yes! Students can apply to any university they wish, and HGS provides university advising to all high school students in its programs.

For students who decide not to pursue a participating HGS university, our advisors will offer basic support such as consultation, goal setting, and preparation for the Common Application. If a student needs deeper services, such as essay writing or interview prep, the advisor will recommend alternative advising options to support students’ post-graduation goals.
