For the Falcao family, education isn’t just about earning good grades—it’s about developing character, independence, and a lifelong love of learning. Learn how they traveled from Brazil to the U.S. to experience an international graduation for Hudson Global Scholar Dario.
Step onto the campus of Providence Country Day School, and the respect for learning is immediately apparent. From book-filled shelves lining the hallways to student artwork in display cases, from tidy, well-equipped classrooms to bulletin boards featuring academic posters, and bright, clean facilities—the entire environment speaks to a culture that values more than just test scores or checklists. Learning here is not just a series of classes; it’s a lived experience.
As Hudson Global Scholar Dario Falcao toured the campus, he recognized that love for learning all around him—and it mirrored his own. Dario had come to Providence Country Day School to receive his American high school diploma for the work he completed through the Hudson Global Scholars U.S. Dual Diploma program. After several years of virtual study, he was pleased to finally visit the school in person.
Focused and articulate, Dario hails from Brazil. He has excelled in his studies at Escola Concept School in Sao Paolo, where he takes regular academic classes. Dario is currently tackling Advanced Placement® (AP®) classes and exams while preparing for the SAT to strengthen his college applications. So far, he has passed three of his four APⓇ exams and eagerly awaits the results of the fourth.
Dario earned his American high school diploma from Providence Country Day Global Campus in June 2025 and will complete his Brazilian high school diploma in December 2025.
Outside the classroom, Dario enjoys playing soccer and following various sports with a particular passion for American football and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Dario’s quiet confidence reveals a remarkable academic talent. The work of being a global scholar has been rigorous and challenging, but he has become a better student from the challenge.
With a full load of courses in his local school, Dario had to carve out time to study and complete the projects:
“I would typically come home from a full day of school and work on my virtual assignments and then also work to complete them on the weekends. But it gave me the sense of autonomy and responsibility to do so.”
The projects he completed each semester through the Hudson Global Scholars program built his endurance: an excellent preparation for his future academic work.
Dario’s positive experience in the U.S. Dual Diploma program inspired his younger brother, Lucas, to follow in his footsteps. Though it’s not always easy to balance, Lucas is taking his time to achieve, using free time and summer breaks to complete assignments. “I am adjusting to the schedule and to the responsibility level.”
Like his brother, Lucas is excited about the program and believes it will accelerate his academic work and help his college application. Also like his brother, Lucas is an American football fan, but he favors the Baltimore Ravens. He hopes to study journalism.
Dario’s parents are also pleased with the Hudson Global Scholars program and the measurable growth they have seen in both their boys. They strongly support both Dario and Lucas, encouraging them to work hard and achieve their goals.
Dario’s father is impressed with the qualities that he has seen develop in his sons, including responsibility, time management, and organizational skills. Dario’s mother wanted an academic program for their children that would develop a deep love for learning, not just teach them to take tests or check boxes. “We wanted to supplement their educational experience so that they truly love learning and so they know education is not merely about a grade.”
The Falcao family is excited that Dario has completed this program and has gone beyond simply receiving a grade. Dario knows he has gained much more than simply a dual diploma. He has become a scholar who takes initiative, loves to learn, and can independently and responsibly manage his own learning. Dario’s mother noted,
“The dual diploma program offers a chance for academic opportunity that gives responsibility to the student that he or she would not be able to get anywhere else.”
With a strong interest in STEM subjects, Dario plans to pursue engineering after high school. He is working with his Hudson Global Scholars advisors as he applies to universities in Canada and the United States where he hopes to learn, play soccer, and continue to grow as a person.
Dario knows he is heading into a world that is rapidly changing. He mentioned that AI models like Chat GPT and Gemini are already present in his academic world and that he will need to learn how to use them effectively, without losing his ability to think and learn for himself.
Dario and his family believe that studying with Hudson Global Scholars will help Dario in maintaining an element of humanity that will be highly valuable in an increasingly automated and artificial world. With Hudson Global Scholars, Dario’s love for learning, curiosity, and academic fortitude have made him a global scholar ready to face the new challenges of a changing world.
