Earning admission to an English-speaking university in Singapore was a goal that motivated Hang Liu to enroll in Hudson Global Scholar’s U.S. Dual Diploma program alongside his studies at Chengde No. 2 High School in China. By completing an American high school diploma—taking courses outside of regular school hours—he strengthened his academic profile and prepared himself for success in an international, English-speaking university environment.
From the beginning, he found the American curriculum to be a good academic fit. “I think the courses offered by this high school are very suitable for me. As a complement to the courses in China, these courses can really motivate me to study,” he explains. The program’s structure, rigor, and English-language instruction helped him stay engaged and focused on his long-term goal of overseas university admission.
Through the program, he completed online coursework in Mathematics, English, World History, Introduction to Business, and Media and Communication, with Media and Communication becoming his favorite course. These courses were taught fully in English and emphasized critical thinking, communication, and independent learning—skills essential for success at an English-speaking university.
A key outcome of the program was his significant improvement in English proficiency.
“Compared to before this course, my English proficiency has significantly improved, with enhancements in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills,” he says. "I got a satisfactory IELTS score for my English writing thanks to those rigorous assignments from my Dual Diploma course."
He also highlights the academic support he received, noting that “the teacher graded the homework very quickly and provided detailed explanations for each question,” which helped him continuously improve.
These improvements in confidence and skill have been visible to others as well. As Jessie Jiao, his Program Co-coordinator in China, observes:
“Hang was shy and hesitant to speak in front of others. After his engagement in the Dual Diploma Program, he built a surprising level of confidence. He told me this has been like 'fresh sunshine in my life.' It’s really pleasant to see that he has become more active in all aspects of his life.”
His hard work paid off. Upon completing the U.S. Dual Diploma Program, he was accepted to James Cook University in Singapore, demonstrating that the diploma is recognized and valued by English-speaking universities in the region. The program not only helped him meet admission requirements but also prepared him to succeed in an international academic setting.
Reflecting on his experience, he is confident in the program’s impact. “I hoped that through this course, I would obtain an admission notice from an excellent university, thereby enhancing my educational qualifications and improving myself,” he says. This is a goal he successfully achieved. He now recommends the program to others, adding,
“This is an excellent learning program. I will recommend it to my friends so that they can have a better way to learn.”
His journey shows how an American diploma earned in China can open doors to respected English-speaking universities and equip students with the academic skills and confidence to thrive globally.
